Big Brothers on Ice, Making a difference in the lives of KidsThis year the Campaign is shaping up for a "hat trick". Look forward to three events, starting with the Big Brothers on Ice BBQ on May 17th. More soon to follow.
DLHC, comprised of 15 heroes from various sectors of our community share a love of hockey, of community, and the future we have in our youth. Nothing can fill the emotional hole of being left without a father, who died four years ago of a heart attack. Mary Schatz-Grootveld, mother to Arick, says her youngest son's eyes have grown sadder and sadder each time Arick's brother Rein leaves with his Big Brother- he gets left behind. Read more in the Herald article. "Kenny," an 8 year old boy, is in the 2nd grade. Soon, his older brother will venture to college, leaving him at home with his mother and 16 yr old sister. Adopted at an early age from the foster care program, he has had both mother and father.
